01 Purpose

Most software ships with a Privacy Policy explaining how your data is collected, stored, processed, shared, monetized, breached, apologized for, and eventually leaked to a hacker forum.

Other software ships with no source code at all โ€” locked behind binaries, wrapped in license keys, and guarded by legal departments whose entire purpose is to make sure you never truly own what you paid for. They call it "intellectual property." We call it artificial scarcity.

This is neither of those documents.

This is a Piracy Policy. We liberate your data and our code, set both free for you to do whatever you want with them. Protect or share โ€” your choice.

There are two things we ask you not to do:

Don't feed the machines. This code is written for humans to read, use, learn from, and build upon. It is not training data for models owned by companies that extract from the commons and sell back the concentrate. If you want AI that serves everyone, train it on data whose authors consented.
Don't sell what should be free. This code is not a product for you to wrap in a subscription and serve from your cloud. If you want to offer it as a service, contribute back. Or better yet โ€” help your users run it themselves. If anyone is going to charge for this work, it should be the people who wrote it. And even then, we'd prefer you pay us voluntarily, because you value what we do โ€” not because we locked you out.

Everything else? Copy it. Fork it. Ship it. Teach it. Break it. Fix it. Make it yours.

02 Data Collection

We collect no data. None. Zero. Null. nil. undefined. โˆ….

We do not use cookies, trackers, analytics, pixels, fingerprints, beacons, or whatever surveillance apparatus the adtech industry has invented since this sentence was written.

We do not know you visited. We do not care. (We care about you as a person. We just don't need your IP address to prove it.)

03 Your Rights

04 Our Obligations

If we break this pledge, fork us. That is the correct response.

05 Third-Party Sharing

Encouraged. Vigorously.

06 Data Retention

We retain nothing about you.

You may retain everything about us. That is how open source works: the code remembers, the server forgets.

07 Why This Exists

The modern internet has normalized the collection of personal data as a precondition for using software. Privacy policies have become terms of surrender โ€” documents where users "consent" to surveillance they cannot meaningfully refuse.

Open source offers an alternative. Software that serves its users without watching them. Infrastructure you can inspect, modify, and own.

This Piracy Policy is a reminder that it doesn't have to be the other way.

Your attention is not our product. Your data is not our business model. Your freedom to copy this code is not a bug โ€” it is the entire point.

Pirate this policy

This policy may be updated to grant additional freedoms. It will never be updated to restrict them.

Questions? Open an issue โ€” or don't. We are not tracking whether you do.

As someone who went to federal prison for internet piracy and also creates and contributes to open-source software, I love this.
